ATSNJ Partners with the Special Olympics of NJ

Dear friends and colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that the ATSNJ has made a commitment to support the Special Olympics New Jersey (SONJ).  The SONJ mission statement is aligned with our own: the SONJ “…provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.”   Both the ATSNJ and SONJ feel that all athletes should have top notch medical care and athletic trainers have the skills to provide that care.

Volunteer opportunities with the SONJ throughout the year will be posted on our website with links to the registration pages of the SONJ.  If you have questions about volunteering please contact Gina Dain at gdain78@yahoo.com.

The countdown is on!  There are less than 30 days until the Opening Ceremony at the 2016 Special Olympics New Jersey Summer Games!  The 2016 Summer Games will take place from June 10th-12th.  Nearly 2,500 Special Olympics athletes from throughout New Jersey will compete in a variety of sports including aquatics, powerlifting, softball, tennis, and track & field.  They will be joined by hundreds of coaches, volunteers, family members, friends and spectators for the 2016 Special Olympics New Jersey Summer Games.  We hope you can join ATSNJ and SONJ for this summer sports season culminating event!  For more information about the summer games and volunteering as an athletic trainer please visit www.atsnj.org or www.sonj.org.

Be Well and Stay Well,

Eric A. Schwartz, ATC, MEd, LAT
